How to Visit Las Coloradas Yucatan ( Visitor Guide)

On the plus side, on your way to Las Coloradas you will pass an entire coast of beautiful white-sand beaches. Back when I used to visit Las Coloradas frequently photography was free for all. You were asked by the guards not to drone above private property which is absolutely understandable , but there were no limits. Unfortunately, these times are gone. Now the guides will only let you take pictures with your phone.

No DSLR cameras are allowed and absolutely no drones. There are plenty of cheesy photo spots on the site though, sort of like those next to rice fields in Ubud in Bali. The road leads through small towns and there are NO gas stations between Playa and Valladolid, so fill your tank beforehand!

You can, BUT it takes a long time and costs a lot of money if you want to do it on your own. Since the lake became popular several tour companies launched tours to Las Coloradas. The majority of tours go to Rio Lagartos for the biosphere boat tour and proceed to the main viewing point of pink lakes. The town of Las Coloradas is too small for any hotels. The closest place to stay is Rio Lagartos, about 30 minutes away by car. Affordable hotel with regular facilities. Everything was just as described with no surprises.

My husband and I had a great experience. In my personal opinion, Las Coloradas pink lakes are totally worth the effort if you have enough time to visit and keep in mind that it is a working salt factory. During this day trip, you can also visit some of the nearby beaches completely free of tourists.

Another option for an add-on to your trip would be stopping by a town of Izamal, also known as the yellow town, if you want to see more colorful places. The easiest and the most reliable travel insurance is World Nomads Travel Insurance. Get it before your trip to skip unnecessary troubles that might ruin your holidays! Notify me of new posts by email. Nope, wrong. This has always been private property.

Before Instagram they were just letting you enter more places because there weren't many people visiting. I just arrived in Tizimin and would like to see these two places on my own, without a tour, although, I am interested in the boat tour in Rio Lagartos. No public transportation between those two unless something changed very recently.

These days you can visit without the tour, but then you're only allowed to the first lagoon because it's private property. You can pay a local there who will most likely accompany you to make sure you're not trespassing to take you further up - about MXN. Thank you so much for your post and updated article. The distance from Merida to Las Coloradas is miles km.

The drive takes three hours in normal traffic. While Merida is the nearest city to Las Coloradas, it is accessible from these other parts of Yucatan as well. In fact, this is what I did when I visited Las Coloradas from Merida — and I still recommend it to all Merida visitors who ask me for advice. The cool thing about tours from Merida to Las Coloradas is that they combine it with a visit to other great sites, like Chichen Itza Mayan Ruins , cenotes near Merida , great Yucatan beaches , and more.

This is my choice for the best of all Merida to Las Coloradas trips because it includes Chichen Itza and a cenote. One of the New Seven Wonders of the World, many already have Chichen Itza on their Merida itinerary , so combine it with Las Coloradas and a cenote for a bucket list day! Next, enjoy authentic Yucatan food lunch in the pueblo small town of Temozon, Yucatan, before heading to Las Coloradas. Get picked up right at your Merida hotel or Merida Airbnb , for an easy, stress-free start to the day!

Enjoy the comfort of private transportation for just you and your party on the three hours drive from Merida to Las Coloradas — ideal for social distancing. The final stop before ending the day is a refreshing swim in beautiful Cenote Saamal. Next, head to the pink lakes of Las Coloradas to admire and photograph this unique body of water.

After, enjoy a private Rio Lagartos boat tour through the mangroves to see alligators and the Las Coloradas flamingos. End the tour with a nice meal in a local seafood restaurant.

Wondering, Is it easy to drive from Las Coloradas to Merida? The answer is yes! You will, of course, need to get a rental car in Merida first. The drive is easy, as you really only take two highways. From Merida, you just take Highway to the city of Tizimin, and then switch to Highway Use these directions from Merida to Las Coloradas — and make sure to download the map so you have it to use offline. As there are no direct buses from Merida to Las Coloradas, this route requires two buses and takes about five hours.

Las Coloradas is located in a remote part of the Yucatan, near the small pueblo of Rio Lagartos. As with most small towns, things close early and public transport stops running early as well.

Coming from Valladolid to Las Coloradas? The Xtampu salt lakes are located in the pueblo small town of Telchac, Mexico, which you can turn into a full Merida day trip if you have a rental car. In the town of Telchac, Yucatan, you can have a beach day at Telchac Puerto, one of the best Yucatan beaches near Merida. The pink lakes of Las Coloradas are a naturally occurring phenomenon, and among only 30 or so pink lakes on Earth!

The pink lakes are sometimes called a pink beach, though it is not a beach at all. In fact, the closest beach to Las Coloradas is Cancunito , located about 15 minutes away. Las Coloradas has pink water because of the red algae, plankton and brine shrimp that live in this salty water. The salt content in this water is so high, this area has been used as a natural salt mine by the Maya for centuries. Belonging to a major salt production company, the majority of Las Coloradas lakes are actually shallow man-made pools.

Las Coloradas is also famous for its pink flamingos. After feeding on the algae, plankton, and brine shrimp that give these waters its color, the originally white-feathered Las Coloradas flamingos turned pink to match!

Driving or renting a car is by far the easiest option to get to Las Coloradas and gives you the most freedom to explore the site on your own.

I drove from El Cuyo to Las Coloradas, which is a little less than a 2 hour drive, and there is free parking on site. You can even make a road trip out of it and stop to see the sights and flamingos!

Not only will it save you the cost and hassle of arranging transportation, but you also get to experience Rio Lagartos and Las Coloradas fully. With the driving time, these are usually full day tours that include a visit to Las Coloradas and a boat tour at Rio Lagartos. After a short swim at a cenote, you conclude your Las Coloradas Yucatan Mexico tour at the pink lagoon.

Enjoy an activity-filled day out without the hassle of planning transportation and buying admission fees. The licensed tour guide is a bonus, bringing you to an unspoiled beach within the biosphere reserve. You could take the local ADO bus to Rio Lagartos from Cancun, which takes 7 hours one way due to multiple stops and changes.

From there, you can sign up for tours or hire private rides. There is also a limited bus that leaves Tizimin at either or and the return bus is at 3PM. Note there are also added fees if you want to go on the lookout or do a bike or safari tour.

For Mexican nationals and residents, you must be able to show official identification. Note the discount does NOT apply to temporary residents, only permanent residents. I personally just paid for the access to the pink lakes without the lookout, which is a structure that is a few stories tall that you can climb for a better view.

Say Cheese! Many a photographer, seeing a color guard standing in column for formation, has approached the team from the right side and asked the team to turn right for a picture. This puts the American flag to the left of the other flag s and the team is then immortalized for setting up incorrectly. Members of the team must know better and ask the photographer to take the picture from a more appropriate position. The minimum standard for all services. You may not carry any flag other than the National Ensign and the Departmental. The only color guard formation authorized for these three services is right rifle guard, US color bearer, departmental color bearer, and left rifle guard.

When a foreign national color or colors is authorized for a ceremony, another three-man color guard or more is most often formed and is subordinate to the standard color guard team shown above.

There is one exception here. The MCO does authorize the foreign national to be in the color guard proper to the left of the national and right of the departmental. Please read here , here , here , here , and here , for more information on joint service colors.

Yes, quite a bit of reading. Question: Can a 4-member Color Guard perform a left face carrying the Colors? Where in the regulation can I find this? My understanding is: 1. At the halt, order the colors 2. Perform a left face 3. Carry the colors. Just to clarify my question. The Color Guard is in column formation carrying the colors. Entering in single file to an event.

The Color Guard needs to perform a left face to face the audience They present the Colors facing the audience. Then they exit the place. At this time, can they do a right face while carrying the colors? No need to go to Order. We do that for an armed squad or platoon or larger formation and are used to that, but colors is different. The commands would look like this:. Form up in column formation with normal spacing Port, Arms, staffs to Trail, if there is a low clearance area through which the team passes.

The video does not show the color guard at the carry meaning, colors actually on the harness. The colors are not doing face movements. Please clarify. Again, and sorry for the redundance. The guards will be at right shoulder arms. The colors will be carried, on the harness. Was my understanding in the Army that you could not do a left face while carrying the colors and guards were at right shoulder arms. The video was just an example presentation and posting.

The team did not enter at Carry on Purpose. You can execute Left and Right Face at Carry. However, if you read about the posting sequence, the team executes a Right Face from column to post the staffs into the stands.

What is the protocol when there are two color guards in small town festival parade? Is it appropriate to have more than one color guard? More than one color guard is just fine in a parade. Whatever the lineup is up to the parade committee. There is no mandatory separation.

Strangely enough, the flag bearer of a couple hundred years ago was an officer, a Naval Ensign who carried the National Ensign. I have not been able to find the reference in AR regarding the material of a staff, only the length of the staff.

I would like to be able to provide the appropriate regulations and references to my program so we can be better representatives of the Army and our school. Could you help me out with this? Thank you in advance. The colors staff is the same as the guifon staff.

The newest edition of TC Band, most as a drum major on the street. I was also the drum major in the recent Maine Bicentennial Band. This unit half-stepped the entire length of the parade route, out of step with our drum cadence. It was a very hot day and this slow pace really impacted the music. I never saw this type of cadence in all my years on the street; if anything, we often tried to keep up with the color guard. Can you tell me if things have changed for these marching units in the military?

Thanks much in advance. The constant Half Step and even, what I call, the Half Step Stomp is an insideous technique that has weaved its way through every marching program at the cadets and explorer level and into parts of the military. We both know that Half Step may be required when marching at certain times. The step is described in all three drill and ceremonies manuals and is authorized to use.

But, as you asked, have standards changed? In all this time, I have come across a few people who have the idea in their head that marching is somehow approached differently. Marching is essentially walking at Attention with certain restrictions arm swing, step length, etc. Lack of awareness of the our drill and ceremonies manuals, lack of practice, and a general belief that just because we graduate Basic or Boot Camp is all we need for the rest of our military career all lead to this type of bad performance.

Thanks for getting back so quickly. This will likely have been my final parade and it was an interesting way to bow out. In my twenty year th A.

Ordinarily under the control of the state government in which the governor is the commander-in-chief pursuant to Title 32 of the United States Code , National Guard troops may also be called into active federal service with the United States Army or the United States Air Force in which the president serves as commander-in-chief and deployed worldwide with their active duty Army and Air Force counterparts.

The Florida National Guard, like those of other states, provides trained and equipped units for prompt mobilization in case of war or national emergency. Guardsmen may take part in functions ranging from limited actions in non-emergency situations to full-scale law enforcement martial law in cases when the governor determines that ordinary law enforcement officials can no longer maintain civil control. The state mission assigned to the National Guard is "to provide trained and disciplined forces for domestic emergencies or as otherwise provided by state law.

During World War II , the Florida State Guard served as the official state defense force of Florida, and was organized as a stateside replacement for the Florida National Guard and executed the stateside duties of the National Guard for the duration of the war.

Theodore W. Brevard , 9 June to 8 July resigned. Henry W. McMillan , 28 April to 12 August Emmett R. Titshaw Jr. Michael A. Calhoun , 29 March to April James O. Eifert , April to present. National Guard units can be mobilized at any time by presidential order to supplement regular armed forces, and upon declaration of a state of emergency by the governor of the state in which they serve.

However, since 11 September there have been a significant number of individual activations under Title 10 USC to support military operations —Present ; the legality of this policy has been a major issue within the National Guard. This changed dramatically during the Gulf War , and continued on to present day, with both the Federal Reserve Components and the National Guard increasingly utilized as an "operational" force for worldwide deployment.

The current forces formation plans of the US Army call for the typical Army National Guard unit or Army National Guardsman to serve one year of active duty for every three years of service. More specifically, previous Department of Defense policy was that no National Guardsman would be involuntarily activated for a total of more than 24 months cumulative in one six-year period.

This policy has changed 1 August , with the new policy stating that National Guard soldiers and airmen will be given 24 months between deployments of no more than 24 months; individual states have differing policies but remain subordinate to DoD policy. As of , the Florida National Guard was composed of approximately 10, soldiers and 1, airmen.

They are so cute in so many ways! The petting zoo was a total let down and very lacking in opportunity.

The animals would have to intentionally walk up to the fence in order to be petted. It's a long walk and honestly not that great of a petting zoo. The zoo is rather confusing without a map. However they had a fee in order to purchase a map, so I basically just roamed around.

The quick service food I had wasn't very impressive. I personally would suggest eating off site somewhere. Overall the zoo was clean and well maintained. I can't wait to go back!

The kids and adults were so excited to explore around. We had such a great time and learned so much. Employees around the park are awesome! They do a great job keeping the zoo as organized as possible. Everyone was so friendly, helpful, and patient. The ladies at the gift shop had a great sense of humor and we really enjoyed our conversation.

Restrooms are located all around the zoo and are quite clean. Plenty of food and snack options available throughout the zoo as well. This was such a wonderful experience and I'm so glad we got a chance to visit with the kiddos! I love how accessible activities are in DC! No cost to get into the zoo.

Easy and well maintained walkways to get to different exhibits. My favorite were the pandas! I recommend going when weather is a bit warmer - you'll have better chances of catching all the animals.

Lots of parking but that does cost money. You can reserve a parking online or pay on the spot. Can also easily get there by metro. We me, spouse, youngest daughter, and a neighbor and her daughter went to Zoolights at the National Zoo on the 29th.

We were scheduled to go on the 23rd, but the event was Canceled because of the frigid temps and wind chill.

We were glad we snagged tickets on the 29th, but we couldn't get parking at the zoo. We had not been to Zoolights in maybe 8 or 10 years and we were impressed with all of the upgrades in the lighting. The staff at the zoo and the lighting wizards really did a great job. Lights on trees, lighted "animals" and just a fun environment. Well done National Zoo! So much fun!! Despite going on a crazy hot day in August!

Due to the heat, some animals were not out and about which was disappointing but was understanding. One of our favorite parts of the zoo was the Boozy cart, it was a drink cart that served these amazing adult beverages!!

I had so much fun learning about the different animals!! See all photos from Michelle O. Came here the day after Christmas observed holiday and had a great time even though many exhibits were closed marked with Nobody's Home signs.

Because it was so cold, there weren't too many people and it was nice to walk around and hide in the indoor exhibit buildings, and view the animals that were around. Also plenty of cardinals chilling about! My favorite was an elephant that was sneaking hay out of the storage by reaching past the grate and yanking it out. Also generally just a huge fan of poison frogs and there are plenty of those here!

This zoo is free and is a must visit. Our favorite exhibits were the elephants, gorillas, sea lions, otters, prairie dogs, pandas and big cats. Make sure to set aside at least hours when visiting. See all photos from Stephanie J. Free entry is a nice treat.

Parking was easy once we found the right entrance. Typical overpriced food that lacked any real flavor. The animals were displayed well. The crowds were very small even though we went on a gorgeous warm sunny day in November! My son and I visited here in the wintertime on a Thursday afternoon around pm while visiting from NC. Since it's DC, I decided to walk or catch a Lyft. At the time, you had to get free tickets online.

It was pretty chilly, being about degrees. Asia Trail: We didn't see many animals on the Asia trail as they like warmer climate. We did see otters, giant pandas, Northern Snakehead, red pandas. We didn't see leopards, fishing cat, sloth bears, or Asia elephants.

The Bird exhibit closed due to renovation. We saw American Bison, cheetah, and more at another exhibit. Food: Initially, Asia Trails ends into food court.

They have SBarro Pizza , Dipping dots closed , and food truck. There were ample beverage machines were present. Additionally, just past the food court area were the restrooms.

American Trail: We saw river otter 2 , wood duck, bald eagle, gray seal, harbor seal, brown pelican, and California sea lion. With the sea lion, i observed kids having items and sea lion was following it as they moved it along the glass, which was interesting..

We didn't see beaver, maned wolf, or Andean bear. Amazonia: This was an inside exhibit that had Stingrays, turtles, fish, birds in one area. Upstairs was a rain forest where animals roam free.

There were no monkeys. I did see a beautiful roseate spoonbill. There were amphibians on another level of the exhibit. The underwater exhibit for sea lions was open but none present. The Kids farm had goats, donkeys, koi Carp, and channel catfish.

It took 6th drivers and over 45 minutes.. In order to do so, we actually had to walk and leave out of park through pedestrian exit in order to catch the lyft.

I feel like that's something that should be properly communicated.
